Have you heard of eccentric exercise? It is a really important aspect of rider fitness as the muscles are trained to support your weight (plus any extra load) as the muscles are lengthening.  Why is this important? In an ideal world our weight is central and balanced, but in the normal riding world we are constantly moving away from that balance and then hopefully quickly moving back. Our muscles are lengthening as we move from centre so effectively “catching” us from falling too far from midline and throwing us back to our original position.  I include eccentric exercises in my online and face to face classes.
